Alan Brock
introduced the guest speaker of the night, Dayton Moore, General Manager
for the Kansas City Royals. Dayton Moore was named Senior VP of Baseball
Operations/General Manager in May of 2006 when he officially assumed his
duties, becoming the sixth general manager in KC Royals franchise history
on June 8. Moore, a native of Wichita, Kan., brought his resume to the
Royals in 2006. He had previously worked for the Atlanta Braves
organization since 1994, most recently serving as Assistant General
Manager/Baseball Operations since Aug. 2005. Moore is a leader in the
Kansas City community and was named to the 2007 board of directors of the
NAIA’s Champions of character program, which instills an understanding
of character values in sports and provides practical tools for
student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary
character traits.
Moore spoke about
his personal life and how he came to be in Kansas City. He talked about
the process it took to come back to the Midwest and he also talked about
life in general. He shared what he believed was important in life —
things geared toward character, morals and making the right choices and
setting a good example. Moore also fielded questions from the crowd about
Royals baseball and his journey.
The closing
remarks and benediction were given by Alan Brock.
